Nigerian blogger and other Influential People On The Internet in 2016

Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and Caitlyn Jenner are among the “Most Influential People on the Internet,” according to Time. On Wednesday, the magazine unveiled its second annual list of those who have the biggest effect on the world via their online presence, and it included three members of the reality and music family.

In order to select this year’s honorees, the magazine explained it made its choices “by looking at their global impact on social media and their overall ability to drive news.” In addition to a slew of Hollywood names, Time honored members of the #BlackLivesMatter Movement, politicians, and authors.

As more and more of our own daily interactions happen online, so, too, does celebrity drama. And Angie Nwandu, 25, has made it her business to capture it. Two years ago, she started The Shade Room, an Instagram account and blog that aims to be like Page Six for celebrities on social media: a chronicle of who likes whose posts, who comments on whose photos, and who starts following (or better yet, unfollowing) each other.

Social media queen Kardashian was dubbed by the magazine as “one of the most-watched people on the planet” for having amassed more than 120 million followers across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. The magazine gave the reality star props for defending her recent headline-making nude selfies. Kardashian’s mobile apps were also praised by Time.

West’s frequent Twitter rants scored him a place on the list, as well. The magazine lauded his savvy online-only release of his latest album The Life of Pablo, which is streaming just on Tidal, and cited it a reason for making this year’s cut.

Jenner’s meteoric social media rise helped land her on the magazine’s “Most Influential” list. She is called the “the most famous transgender person in the world—and on social media” by Time. Like West, Jenner’s sometimes controversial opinions and statements shared on social media were noted. She’s also credited for helping to bring transgender awareness to a larger audience.
