Fans react to Macklemore diss on Miley Cyrus and Iggy Azalea

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are receiving strong reactions for dissing Miley Cyrus and Iggy Azalea in their new song “White Privilege II.” See how fans are reacting below on Twitter.

In the track, Macklemore accuses Cyrus and Azalea of appropriating black culture with their music and images. He raps, “You’ve exploited and stolen the music/The moment, the magic, the passion, the fashion, you toy with.” Macklemore adds, “The culture was never yours to make better/You’re Miley, you’re Elvis, you’re Iggy Azalea.”

Many people on Twitter feel it’s ironic and disingenuous of Macklemore to call the pair out for appropriating black culture when he himself is a white rapper. A Twitter user named @MotherDDavis tweeted, “Hot ass mess! Dudes your in the same boat as Miley Cyrus and Iggy Azalea so stop throwing glass at the glass house.” Another person with the account name @Posh_SA expressed, “Its known when insult miley cyrus, u become relevant. Macklemore is thirsty af.” And @Mosesmobiba wrote, “I can’t even believe I was a fan of this cow,” while @AllisonPDavis joked the lyrics feel “like a nerdy kid punching a slightly nerdier kid so he can get a lil more popular.”

But Macklemore supporters praised the song, and felt he was spot-on with his assessment of Cyrus and Azalea. A person with the handle @IamAkademics offered, “Macklemore knows where his bread is buttered at…tossed Iggy Azalea all the way under the bus,” while @gucciguac tweeted at Cyrus and Azalea, “RIP. My condolences. Macklemore just destroyed y’all.” Meanwhile, another Macklemore fan named @JesseKenn wrote, “white artists are in a quagmire. Do nothing and you’re Iggy Azalea. Try to do something and you’re Macklemore.”
