Cleaner arraigned for stealing Car number plates

A 26-year-old cleaner, Ismahi Mohammed, who allegedly stole 32 pieces of car number plates and a bag of clothes, all valued at N376, 000, was on Monday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. Mohammed, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, ASP Frank Inah, told the court that the accused committed the offence at the Federal Road Safety Commission’s office at Ojodu- Berger, Lagos, on Feb. 1, at 6.30 p.m.

``The accused, who is a cleaner in the office, was caught with the items, and when he was interrogated, he could not give satisfactory answers. "It was later discovered that the bag belonged to one Muhammed Abubakar, a staff of Road Safety who left them in his cabinet at the office.

“The accused is fond of taking people’s things without their consent," he said

Inah said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Osinbajo, granted the accused bail in the sun of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Osinbajo adjourned the case till Feb. 17 for hearing. (NAN)
