Blake Shelton reacts to Gwen Stefani Fake Pregnancy Prank

Blake Shelton defended girlfriend Gwen Stefani on Friday after the No Doubt singer received a ton of backlash on social media for falsely announcing she’s pregnant with a baby girl. Her revelation was only a prank, but many people argued that Stefani’s April Fools’ Day baby joke was insensitive to women who are having trouble conceiving.

As Gossip Cop reported earlier, Stefani posted an Instagram photo of a sonogram of a baby, along with the caption, “It’s a girl” and several heart emojis. The singer was presumably poking fun at the many false tabloid reports claiming she and Shelton are expecting a child, but some followers on social media felt that the singer inadvertently targeted women with fertility issues.

One offended person wrote, “What a terrible April Fool’s joke. Shame on you. All those suffering from infertility and pregnancy loss expect better than you. Classless.” Another user also expressed, “I haven’t been able to conceive for 7 years. I’ve been told by 4 different specialists, it will never happen… You are the mother of gorgeous beautiful boys. You know how precious being a mother is. Please consider deleting this post. It’s not funny. It’s just insulting to your adult female fans.” There were countless similar responses from people calling the joke “cruel,” “childish,” and simply “not funny.”

Shortly after the backlash, a fan on Twitter with the handle @stefaniigx wrote to Shelton, “How do you feel about everyone leaving these ridiculous comments on the April fools prank?” The country superstar responded, “I ignore self appointed do gooders who bitch and moan on social media. Try it. The world gets WAY better.”
